Okinawa
A different kingdom, a different sea

¥300,000
per day · with car and driver · up to 6 guests

Okinawa was the Ryukyu Kingdom for 450 years and it still does not feel like the mainland — different music, different food, different manners, and water the colour of glass. A private car matters more here than anywhere: the island is long, the buses are rare, and the best places are unmarked.

A day in Okinawa

A starting point, not a script. Every stop can be swapped, dropped or lingered over on the day.

08:30

Pickup

From your Naha hotel or Naha Airport.

09:15

Shuri Castle

The Ryukyu royal seat, being rebuilt after the 2019 fire — you can watch the reconstruction from inside.

11:00

North along the coast

The expressway, then the sea road. Cape Manzamo’s elephant-trunk cliff on the way.

12:30

Lunch

Okinawa soba, taco rice, or an agu pork set at a roadside station.

14:00

Churaumi Aquarium

Whale sharks and manta rays in the largest tank of its kind. Deservedly the island’s most visited place.

16:00

Kouri Island bridge

Two kilometres of causeway over water so clear the reef reads through it.

17:30

Sunset at Cape Zanpa

A white lighthouse on a limestone cliff, and the East China Sea going gold.

19:00

Drop-off

Naha, or your resort in Onna.

Do you need the car here?

Yes — bring the Alphard

There is no rail beyond the Naha monorail. Churaumi, Kouri and Zanpa are two hours apart and the buses are rare. The car is not optional here in any real sense.

Getting there

Your guide flies in and an Alphard is chartered on the island. Flights quoted at cost.

Pickup points

  • Naha hotels
  • Naha Airport (OKA)
  • Onna / Chatan resorts

When to come

¥300,000 with the Alphard and driver, door to door — about ¥50,000 each with 6 of you.

Three ways to travel with us

Every one of them is one private group per day, priced for the group rather than per head.
