Kyushu · Guide flies in
Fukuoka is the friendliest big city in Japan and the door to the whole of Kyushu. A shrine of six thousand plum trees in the morning, an hour’s drive to a canal town or a mountain onsen, and dinner at a yatai stall on the riverbank, elbow to elbow with people who live here.
Hour by Hour
A starting point, not a script. Every stop can be swapped, dropped or lingered over on the day.
From your Hakata or Tenjin hotel, or Fukuoka Airport.
The shrine of the god of learning, with 6,000 plum trees and a 1,000-year-old camphor.
Japan’s newest national museum, on how the country met the rest of Asia. A rare, thoughtful hour.
Tonkotsu ramen at the source, or mizutaki chicken hotpot.
A punted boat through willow-lined canals, or the largest reclining bronze Buddha in the world.
The float that runs in the Yamakasa festival, kept standing all year. Then Kawabata arcade.
Open-air stalls, ten seats each, no menu in English — which is what your guide is for.
Hotel or airport (11 minutes from the city — the best-placed airport in Japan).
No — guide only is enough
Fukuoka’s subway and the Nishitetsu line reach Dazaifu and Yanagawa comfortably. Guide-only works; the car pays off the moment you head into Kyushu proper.
Your guide flies in or takes the shinkansen, quoted at cost. The subway and Nishitetsu line cover the day well; an Alphard and driver are chartered locally if you would rather have the car.
Year-round. Plum blossom at Dazaifu in late February; the Yamakasa festival in mid-July.
¥100,000 guide only — trains, walking and taxis at cost.
¥300,000 with the Alphard and driver, door to door — about ¥50,000 each with 6 of you.
¥500,000 guided by Master Ken himself, six days a month.
The Rate
Every one of them is one private group per day, priced for the group rather than per head.
The only question is whether you need the car — and on some days you genuinely do not.
We will tell you which.

A Day with Master Kenケン本人
¥500,000per day · whole group · up to 6
Kensuke Ueoka himself · 6 days a month
Ken guides a handful of days each month and no more. Kyudo 4th dan, calligraphy 6th dan, yabusame rider — the day is his practice, not a performance of it.
One flat price for the group — not per head. Two of you or six of you, the day costs the same.
Multi-day journeys are ¥300,000 per day, plus the guide’s accommodation (¥15,000–¥25,000 per night, at cost). Beyond 10 hours, ¥15,000 per hour.
